Let's take a trip down memory lane for a bit to see if you can remember any of these hot date spots in the early days. On Whitworth Street, there was the Twisted Wheel, which was famous all over the world and considered one of the best date spots. It was opened in 1963 on Brazennose Street. It moved to Whitworth Street in 1965. Fans would come from everywhere to dance at this all-nighter. The club was closed in 1971 by authorities. The building later became Placemate 7 and then Follies and Legends until it shut down in 2012. In 2013, the building was demolished and made into the New Continental Cub on Harter Street. These clubs were popular among nurses and men. The Tube Club was another good dance club, which was closed in 2001. The Hacienda was also located on Whitworth Street. It was founded by Tony Wilson in 1982. The venue hosted events by celebrities like Madonna, Stone Roses and New Order. During its heyday, it was always packed, but had a reputation for being gang infested during the 1990s. The club closed its doors in 1997. The building was demolished around 18 months later. The Plaza club was located on Oxford Street in the early 1960s. It was managed by Jimmy Savile who was a DJ. The building changed hands and was owned by Tiffany's Club in the 1970s.The Romanoff's dance club was replaced by Rotter's Cinema in the 1970s. In 1990, the building got demolished once Rotter's closed its doors. The Boardwalk was a dance club where live music was played. It was located on Little Peter Street. It was a popular spot for indie kids. The venue was used as a rehearsal space for the Oasis that performed there for the first time live in 1991.
