Best Dating Advice
With Hookup Advice, Sex Advice, and Relationship Advice out of the way, only our fourth and final section is left: Dating Advice. The word "dating" has a variety of definitions, although they all essentially refer to the same concept. For example, Merriam-Webster defines dating as "doing activities with someone you have-or might have-a romantic relationship with". Similarly, Google defines dating as "going out with (someone in whom one is romantically or sexually interested)". Wikipedia, on the other hand, defines dating as "a stage of romantic or sexual relationships whereby two or more people meet socially with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a prospective partner in a more committed intimate relationship or marriage". When it comes to our own dating advice articles, any one of these definitions will do the job! Below, you will find ten dating advice articles, ranging from "How To Date Someone Older Than You" to "How To Foster Healthier Eating Habits With Your Partner" to "How To Plan Dates When You Suck At It" and more! WHAT NOT TO DO ON A FIRST DATE 1

First Date? Don't Order Something With Garlic

If you are of a romantic bent, you may want to think of a first date as a kind of garden of the senses. What do we mean by that? Well, before we get into it, think about that old saying that a first date is all about making the all important first impression. You will want to make sure that you look, act, and smell great -- but there is more to it than that. If you are not sure how to make a great first impression, take a leaf from those kinds of politicians who, in the absence of actual agendas, simply do their best to stay out of the limelight. How do these paragons of middle-of-the-road politics achieve this? Smile, don't say too much -- in general, the one thing you may want to do is to not stand out too much. If you want to look unobtrusive, wear clothes that fit you just right, and are not too tight or too loose, and are neither too bright nor too dowdy. Want to act unobtrusive? Don't say too much about any one topic, keep the jokes to an absolute bare minimum, and agree with your date whenever possible without being too sycophantic. And smelling great is easy to do -- wear an aftershave or perfume that is not too overbearing. If you are not sure how to get even THIS just right, simply stick with a plain deodorant, and avoid smelly foods! The worst offenders in terms of stinky foodstuffs are oily fish, garlic, onions, and, perhaps surprisingly, coffee. If you smoke -- don't! Simple as that. When you are trying to work out what not to do on a first date, one of the first things to do is to think about your date in terms of senses. A first meeting is a whole world of sensorial experience, so be mindful of this when you go to meet someone whom you want to impress. You will want to think about how you look smell, taste, feel, and sound. That may seem a little excessive, but if you think about how you sense the world, it makes sense (no pun intended).

Don't Try To Get To First Base On A First Date

One thing you will really want to bear in mind on your first date with someone is that you will probably want a second date with that person. If you try to get fresh with your date on the first thing you go to, you will most certainly not be seeing that person again. Even if you get lucky (which you should not aim to do in the first place,) you will most likely both be feeling so awkward after it that you will probably not go for a second date anyway.

Dress To Impress On Your First Date

Make sure you are looking your absolute best when you go on your first date with someone special. When you are getting ready to go out on a first date you should choose only your best clothes, aftershave or perfume, makeup, and whatever other items of war you may want to deck yourself up with. You will want to bear in mind that you not only want to look like a million dollars, you will want to FEEL like a million dollars, as well. That shimmering silver dress that looks like liquid mercury and turns heads everywhere you go, men's as well as women's? Looks great, but that tag that you can't remove from the halterneck clasp rubs your neck red raw every time you wear it and makes you feel so self conscious that you spend the whole night thinking of nothing else. Remind you of any of your outfits? If so, avoid them like the plague. That black playsuit that makes you look somehow tomboyish in a kind of 1920s flapper kind of way might be less sexy, but it fits like a goddamn glove and makes you feel super relaxed. Go for an outfit that really accentuates your beauty as well as making you feel chilled out and totally yourself. If you're a guy -- heck, wear a nice shirt and make sure your pants aren't too creased, wear formal shoes in case you end up going somewhere with a dress code, and remember to floss and rinse. That pretty much covers it... Oh, and please, PLEASE wash.

How To Really Wow Your Date

Read up on a few topics that you know your partner is interested in if you can. Check out the sports, news, or whatever other current affairs you think they may be into. If he or she is from a different town than you, maybe have a look at things about that town so that you two have something of interest to talk about. Did you meet at some kind of special event, such as an art gallery? Read up on that subject. If you want to be a bit romantic and you're a guy, why not buy your date flowers, if you think she's the kind of girl who won't be embarrassed by public displays of affection so soon into your fledgling relationship (but remember that this is just a first date, so most people might find this a bit full on!)

The Top Five Things You Should Never Do On A First Date

  • Best #1
Don't insult your date. This is a big no no and never goes well. One of the worst things you can do is to make your date feel like they are not worthy of your time.
  • Best #2
Don't suggest you go Dutch when the bill comes, or even worse, skip the bill altogether. No one likes a cheap skate so be sure that you pay your way, or if you are the guy, pay for the whole meal. Sure, this is meant to be the age of equality, but women still like it if the guy pays for the meal.
  • Best #3
Don't talk about your ex. It's really not too cool to talk about other guys or girls when you are on a date, and it's especially uncool to go on and on and on about your ex, or exes. Nobody wants to hear about what went wrong previously, unless it is really relevant.
  • Best #4
Don't get too hot and heavy. Tempting as it may be, and even if he or she leads you on, be a gentleman, and/or lady, and don't rise to the bait. They will thank you for it some other time.
  • Best #5
Don't take them home. Oh dear -- if there is a sure as heck way to make sure you scare a date away for life, it would be taking them home at the end of the night to meet your folks. Just don't.

The Simplest Ways To Tell If A First Date Is Going Really Well

- Smiling, compliments, touching -- these are all good signs. - Eye contact -- this shows that your date is really into you. - Arranging a follow up date before this one is even done. - A goodnight kiss -- the icing on the cake, but leave it at that.

Five Ways To Rescue A First Date

  • Best #1
If you're a girl, blame your period. So you've said some weird things, responding oddly to questions or comments, or been a bit clumsy and dumped your meal down your dress? Just say that you're on your period, whether you are or not. Use it as an excuse to reschedule. Most guys will be pretty understanding about it (though girls may be able to spot a fake).
  • Best #2
If you're a guy, make a big romantic gesture, but without scaring the crap out of your date. Think, Sudden Teddy Bear, or Impulse Cake. If your date has no known allergies (you may be about to find out) then go for flowers.
  • Best #3
Change it up. If you were about to go to some event, such as a cinema viewing, or a dance party, but neither of you seem to be feeling it, why not change tack and just go and do something else altogether? One of the best things to think about when getting a handle on what not to do on a first date is being flexible with your date planning. After all, you have just met each other, or at the very least, you have just started seeing each other in a romantic light, so you should both keep your ideas a little flexible in case one or other of you decides you don't want to do what you had first planned on doing.
  • Best #4
Call it off. Yes, it may seem to be a little extreme, but if you are not getting on, for whatever reason, and you don't really want to keep going with your date, why not think about calling the date off altogether and rescheduling. This is not really a way of rescuing a date, but it is a way of rescuing a fledgling relationship. If one of you is not feeling great, but there is a genuine spark, consider this option as a good work around.
  • Best #5
Kick it up a gear. So you have been on your date, but you maybe peaked too soon -- your movie finished and there are hours of the evening left to fill. Why not kick it up a gear and go on a kind of second date all in the same night? You could think about maybe going dancing, going for a meal, going for a nice stroll through a local park, or meeting up with one of your groups of friends if you're feeling comfortable enough with your new beau or belle. If your date has gone really well, or at least not really badly, then make sure you book a follow up date! This is the best way to make sure that your love life rolls along smoothly, and it avoids any of those worries that people have when things are left hanging.
